Using A Chicago Web Designer

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

This is for all you business owners out there. You probably want a web site for your business. Well, in case you aren’t 100% sure in how to make a web site, I suggest that you don’t even try. Your profit depends on that. Most people aren’t in the business of making web sites. If you are one of them, then I suggest that you find a web designer that will do the job for you.

How do you exactly choose a web designer? Well, here are some important steps. First, you need to know that having a web designer is a great thing for your business. It can almost never hurt you to have a nice web site for your business. A web designer will cost money, but it will bring you business satisfaction in the long term. Whatever idea for the web site you may have now, a web designer can help you modify it to the extend that it helps your business thrive.

Do you want to choose an individual web designer or a web designing company? Whichever you pick, know these things. You need to research their past. What do their past clients think about their work? Are they satisfied enough? Before you choose any designer, make an interview with them. See their portfolios. Contact their previous customers. Companies will be more reliable, but more expensive. Individuals are less reliable, but cheaper.

You may want to not just settle for any price immediately. Try to negotiate prices. This will be easier to do with individual web designers than with companies. Remember, they have to make a profit too. Making a web site costs money, especially if its a good one. In the long term though, it is worth it.

Before you they start their work, you need to make sure that you have everything listed. You don’t want your web site to be done and then find out that you have additional costs.

Okay now you know a lot about hiring your own Chicago Web Designer. The very next step is to go out and do what I told you to do. Don’t just sit around and think about it!

Metadata Functionality And Sharepoint

Monday, September 6th, 2010

This year sharepoint has gotten even better than ever. There are many new features, but what really specifically stands out the most is probably the content management. What Microsoft did was to go ahead and make metadata an integral part of sharepoint. This means that now sharepoint content management is intuitive for anyone who has ever blogged or used any web 2.0 properties online. This is especially useful today, as so many of your employees are almost guaranteed to be at ease with social media online, and probably own their own blog. This allows them to do their professional work, in a way they’re used to.

How Does This Meta-Data Thing Work?

What meta-data is, is a fancy way of saying “content descriptors”. These are little words or phrases that describe a certain document. For example, if you go to post a blog post on your blog online… The software will ask you to choose a “category” for your post, or add some tags to it. If you write a post on “santa claus” you’d ussually put “santa clause” in your tags, and choose “holidays” as your category. Well, SP has these features now, with the 2010 edition. Your end users can simply tag and categorize documents in this same, intuitive way.

Ok, Then What Is The Managed Meta-Data Services Thing?

With the 2010 edition, Microsoft also goes ahead to give the companies the ability to completely control how the meta-data is structured. That means that you (the top-level manager or SP admin) can authenticate and approve different meta-data uses. You get full control over the meta-data structure.

Further Advanced Meta-Data Features

And if all these features aren’t enough, microsoft has gone further to make this meta-date fully flow into all of the different integration suites, such as office. This means you can use meta-data right from inside your word or excel applications. This is useful as a way to allow the end-user employees to use it themselves in an intuitive way.
