Clive Cussler has created one more fantastic story that is certain to keep his audience seeking much more. This is an adventure story placed in the beginning of the 20th century and is loaded with travel, conspiracy, threats, fast pursuits, and a true feeling of good winning over evil. Combine all of this collectively with a bunch of suspense, and you have a big success!

Isaac Bell is the head investigator for the Van Dorn Detective Agency named to take a look at the suspected suicide of a battleship weapon engineer. Directed by bottom of the belly intuition and believing in the daughter of the engineer that there was no way her father took his own life. Bell commences an initial exploration into the situation.

As quickly as Bell commences with his analysis, strange fatalities start to occur one by one. Deaths at a steel mill accident…closely followed by the demise of a youthful mathematician in a mountain climbing incident. Even additional unforeseen deaths follow.

Each death is tied to the same military project that has been kept secret for the longest time. Following the deaths of these geniuses in their respective fields, Bell comes up against different foreign spies who each carries out his particular assignment of eliminating their respective target. Spies? This takes the Van Dorn’s into unknown territory. While their typical jobs deal with bank robbers, murderers, and thieves…this case will prove to be a challenge on every front.

Isaac Bell finds himself in a race against time to save not only the remaining project members, but to find and capture the master spy bent on targeting and destroying this military project and its key people as well as controlling the other spies who do the master’s bidding. Bell races from the right coast to the left coast searching for and chasing this elusive spy. Isaac Bell realizes the very well-being of the United States hangs in the balance of his success or failure as the world tips closer and closer to the eve of the first World War.
