@THEBARFO to tell you the truth some do look like they use a consumer camera; a video, movie, presentation whatever, these all have to have eye candy. I have looked at all (and I mean all) of the skateboarding videos using the Canon GL2 and I am disgusted on how horrible they are produced… I will admit there are some that are decent, but most I have seen do not use the extent of this camera.
@Bruceforge ahah you obviously know nothing about professional level skateboarding then. watch any professional video and tell me if it looks like they use a consumer camera…
@lalapilew You could but that messes up the tape heads in the camera.
@MrSpuddyd thanks man, but i got it. i need to capture with a deffrent camera. the firewire DV port on the gl2 is broken. that hole time thats all it was. i plug in any other cam works perfectly fine.
@bigd021191connect ur firewire cable to ur pc via the port (IEEE 1394)and to ur cam. Turn ur cam on. Make sure ur OS recognizes the device before continuing
In Vegas select: File, Capture Video, cue ur tape and record it to ur pc hdd its that easy m8. Just in case u hadn’t worked it out yet ; )
how do u edit if it record to tape?
@lalapilew yes you can tape over it, after awile tho you will start to lose frames.
@TheWetFeathers your looking to spend 1000 but there are a few SD card cams out there with quality just as good

i bought a firewire cable and i use sony vagas. but i still can not figure out how to transfer what i recorded from the cam to the computer.

I wish there was a camera exactly like this but it didn’t have to use tape for ur footage like I want one exactly like the canon gl2 but it had a HDD if anyone knows of a camera like I want please tell me the name

@Bruceforge for skating, all im saying is that you dont know what your talking about. if you knew skateboarding you would know that the GL2, vx1 and 2000, and dvx, are great cameras for skateboarding, so all i suggest is that if you dont know what your talking about then dont talk, cuz you know nothing about about filming skating or skating in general.

@Bruceforge ur a fucking idiot that knows nothing about skateboarding or filming skateboarding. this is a great camera for filming skating, its fits one of the best fisheyes, the mark 2 lens, has a handle for following, and is overall great for whatever your filming. so if you dont know what your talking about then shut the fuck up faggot, cuz u dont know skating.

It is not a good camera for skateboarders. Buy a consumer camcorder for $500 or $600, this is $3000.

Ok I called Canon.They said I needed the power addaptor.That the firewire needs more power than what the battery will provide.
Do you use the power addaptor when you upload your vids?
I have the firewire port,DV cable.Hook it up and nothing happens.
Am I supposed to put the GL2 in some kind of mode for it to work?

those were some amazing shots. i really liked it.
agreed, the gl2 can either be awesome or just kinda average. If you get to know it well you can get some really sick shots but if you just point and shoot it can come out pretty bad sometimes. for instance look at some of our new edits (matt went) there slowely coming out better but it deffinatly takes effort to get good shots. Sorry for the book

it depends what u film for. skateboarding you should use the vx1000 best for skating

I love my GL2, except there is a problem, when rewinding under playback it always glitches and tells me to remove the tape, and i have to remove it and put it back in. Also, my battery isnt holding up anymore, I need a new one.
