Among the digital camcorders increasingly populating the market, there are bargain models meant to provide take-anywhere video capability withtout breaking the bank and high end models loaded with features marketed at those wealthy or bold enough to lay out the cash for such a machine.  The Canon XIVIA HF100 is a camcorder meant for the latter market, being so festooned with features that it includes capabilities formerly available only in professional cameras.

Physical Specifications

The Canon VIXIA HF100 is a compact device with the “look” of a camcorder, just a camcorder with style.  Designed to be gripped in the manner of a traditional camcorder, the HF100 is longer, at 5.1 inches than it is high (2.5 inches) or wide (2.9 inches); it is also lighter than hard-drive based camcorders at its shipping weight of 4 pounds.

At the front, a distinctive high definition lens is accompanied by a built-in microphone and a flash/video light.   An electronically controlled lens cover eliminates the need to keep track of a lens cover which can easily be lost.

A fold-out, 2.7 inch widescreen LCD display offers crisp picture and features which include a battery life readout and leveling lines on the display which can be lined up with any horizontal lines in the frame to ensure a level video.

In the bay covered by the LCD display in folded storage mode, you will find the SD memory card slot, an easy button and a battery/info button.  Integrated into the LCD screen are the administrative controls.

An accessory shoe provides the option to add accessories such as a directional exterior microphone for high quality sound recording or a video light.

The HDMI terminal allows for high definition video and audio connections, while the audio/video terminal doubles as a headphone jack for monitoring sound during shooting.

Features

The VIXIA HF100 features a 12x optical zoom and advanced image stabilization technology which allow the high definition video output to remain smooth under more types of movement than could previously be compensated for.

From shooting to encoding to saving digital video files all at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, the HF100 maintians high definition quality throughout the process.  DIVIC DV II image processing produces improved color resolution optimized for skin tones and noise reduction for clear images.  The camera can also shoot still images at up to 3.1 megapixels of resolution, and take instant image captures at 2MP resolution while shooting video at the press of a button.

Features formerly available only in professional camcorders now available in the VIXIA HF100 include 24p Cinema Mode and 30p Progressive Mode.  The former is optiomized to produce a “movie feel,” while the latter is optimized for fast action and shooting for the internet.

Burning video to DVD is made easy with the Canon DVD burner compatibility, allowing for direct burning to DVD using the Canon DW-100 DVD burner.  In addition, the print and share button allows for easy printing of photos and uploading to a computer.

Conclusions

Long a respected name in the field of image technology, Canon strives to deliver the same excellence in the digital world it has been known for in the world of film.  For those willing to pay up for high quality digital camcorders, Canon has spared no expense to deliver high quality image and a multitude of features in the Canon VIXIA HF100 camcorder.  This is not a camera meant for casual shooting to share video with your friends, with a price that reflects this.

Buy Your Electronics Used and Save

In this age of rapidly evolving technology, it seems that “keeping up with the Joneses” is harder, and more expensive, than ever. A middle-income family, especially in this economy where job security is tenuous at best and people are loosing their homes left and right, can barely afford to keep up with the mortgage. How can they be expected to buy new computers and iPods for all of the kids, or update their cell phones every 18 months?

How The New Bankruptcy Means Test Works

Under United States bankruptcy law, most individual filers must file under either Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy. While in the past, you could choose to file under either system, the new laws enacted in 2005 categorize filers as Chapter 7 or 13 based on their monthly income. For those who are above the income bar which would ordinarily assign them to file under Chapter 13, the Bankruptcy Means Test exists to determine whether they may file under Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
